Continuing with their Social Useful Productive Work (SUPW), the Alumni of Welham Boys’ School has completed the construction of a Brand New Kitchen at Premdham - An Old Age Home in Dehradun.
The Welham Old Boys’ Society had announced to undertake the building of a New Kitchen for the residents of the Old Age Home during their earlier SUPW activity held at the old age home in April.
The symbolic curtain opening ceremony of the inauguration stone was done by Ms. Shashi Kanta Chopra, a former History and Political Science teacher of Welham Boys’ School, on 17th August, 2016. The Kitchen is a gift to the residents of the Old Age Home from the Welham Old Boys Society on behalf of Ms. Hersilia Susie Oliphant, the Founder of the school. The date 17th August 2016 also marked the 133rd Birth Anniversary of Ms. Hersilia Susie Oliphant.
After the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new kitchen entrance, Ms. Shashi Kanta Chopra was overwhelmed with emotion and was thrilled that her former students were living up to the values and ethos of Welham Boys’ School. Ms. Gunmeet Bindra, Principal, Welham Boys’ School, was also present for the occasion.
The Alumni of the Welham Boys’ School interacted with the residents and staff of Premdham and acknowledged the excellent efforts of the staff that look after the elderly, who are neglected of our society. Premdham was started in 1982 by the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady Grace. Sister Melvy of Premdham, thanked the Old Boys, for gifting the kitchen to the old age home.
The Alumni departed with a vote of thanks for the Management, Staff and the Residents of Premdham, with a promise to return and spend more time with them in the near future.
